Well that isn't totally true. CPUs are highly efficient; a 2.4ghz CPU will outperform a 2.4ghz GPU with a single pixel pipe/shader.
But all the space used to make CPUs so powerful at everything
could be better spent putting 8 cores on the GPU. Or better yet, 128 cores, like the 8800GTX.
Cool that something that...slow...cost so much!
To be truthful, I can remember a contest in some magazine to win a system with a 700mhz
of RAM, and a 20GB
HD, powered by Voodoo graphics. I was drooling over it and wondered if I'd ever have something so powerful!
