Overclocking MSI HD 7870 OC - Problems

Straight to the point! I have a MSI 7870 OC which runs at 1050/1200 stock, I managed to OC the Core clock to 1265 @ 1.294V stable, but my GPU climbs from 27C to 89C in the space of the One minute furmark 1080p benchmark

what would be an okay temperature to go for?
How much heat will this card be able to handle? has anyone had any experience with it or similar cards?

Thanks

Have you tried manually controlling the fans? Thats a pretty high core clock for a 7870 card without liquid cooling, as far as the temp I would say in the nineties is as far as you need to go before you hurt the life of the card over time.

It will hit 90 in the 1080 preset, but in games e.g. bf3 it tops at around 62-65C and around the same in Unigine Heaven so you think it'd be okay for gaming? I always have my temps on OSD so I won't miss it if it goes too high, but it will run around 60-70C constantly, is this is safe temp to play at? Or should I bring it down? And yeah it is quite a high OC but my card seems to be doing fine in game and the difference between this and stock is amazing!

I have the XFX Ghost HD Radeon 7870 I have Mine clocked at 1100 mhz and 1450mhz memory clock mine hits 70 in the heaven benchmark. As far as if your clock is safe that particular benchmark is going to run it harder than most any game out right now as long as those temps are staying around that level you are golden. I like to keep mine in the 70s at least, you should be golden

Thanks! I ran it in heaven and I got a ax of 62C, I did edit the fan curve to keep it there, rather than push any higher. Im surprised I could take the clocks so high on this card, within reasonable temps. Planning on watercooling soon but I really don't wanna void the warranty :@

Yeah those are great temps, If you use a program like MSI Afterburner you can set the custom fan curve based on temp. This will also grant you a slightly higher score on the benchmark if you set it up right as the card will be cooler.
