What's the point of defragging your registry?

None that I'm aware of. Now you can compact your registry with tools like registry mechanic, but I would be very Leary of programs that advertise defragmenting your registry. They typically have the tendency to do more harm than good.

Isn't that basically what registry defragmenters actually do? Just clean and compact the registry. I reckon doing so has pretty much the same impact on the SSD as compacting databases so I wouldn't really worry about it. Defragging the registry is unlikely to do the same amount of damage to your SSD as defragging the whole disk. That said, registry optimizers do carry the possibility of thrashing your OS. rolleyes.gif

I thought defragmenting ssd drives was completely unnecessary and a waste of read/write cycles or whatever they where called. But then again, sometimes I think everyone investigates and reads information about the stuff they own.

I don't defrag my SSDs, but don't get me started about my company....

You do not need to defrag your SSD, that's what TRIM is for.
