3770k/Prime95 - What type of test do you run?

Hi all,

So I've been living off this guide: http://www.overclock.net/t/1291703/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboards

Swag is so helpful and knowledgeable in the OC department! He has a handy section on Prime95, Custom test. I have started using these simple directions to stress my 3770k (Custom, 8 threads, 90% of available memory, Max FFT size 4096k, SUM(INPUTS) error checking on, Round off checking on) - I also read somewhere to change the time for each FFT from 15 to 10.

Settings are all good I guess, a little easier on my temps than the standard "Small FFT" test. Just curious, are the settings above what everyone runs?

What test do you run? What options do you enable/disable/change? And for how long?

Just curious.

ActuallY i rarely ever even use Prime95

since I am primarily a gamer I find that running a 3dmark benchmark is usually enough for me to be sure Im stable enough.

Though Im not a maximum overclocker, I tend to stick to low voltage overclocks so it may be less necessary for me rolleyes.gif

Yea, don't use small FFT on Ivy Bridge Processors. Use Blend or Custom Blend. Also, be sure to open Event Viewer and go to custom views and then to administrative events. Look for WHEA errors while running P95. It will show you errors that P95 won't show.

Also, I recently discovered folding to be a much better stability test than P95. You should still watch event viewer though.

thats what i run.
heard to use small fft
also heard to use large fft (maximum heat, some ram tested)

but i just use that guide myself.
i did stress for about 6hrs.
he says to do 12hrs though.

Folding@home. It's hard to explain, but basically it helps with research for cures for diseases by combining the power of a bunch of computers.

http://folding.stanford.edu/

A lot of people use it to test the stability of their overclocks. I think that it finds instability faster than P95.

I can't find this event viewer to check custom views / administrative events...

I use occt and IBT and for GPU i use furmark.

Small FFT just tests the vcore whereas Blend tests everything. I use 30 runs of LinX/IBT (90% ram used) which is equivalent to about 12 hours of Prime Blend.
