[Mod/Build Thread - August 2013 MOTM Winner] C70 Master Mavis (First time modder)

I recently built up my computer and of course the original plan was just a good computer for school with occasional gaming, then I found OCN. So of course a graphics card was a must as well as AT LEAST an AIO water cooling solution. But of course that didn't satisfy me either so I sold my Msi 660 and bought an EVGA 670 FTW 4GB and so it begins..

Let me just start this out by saying this is first computer build and first mod, so much of this is me trying things for the first time so trial and error is the name of the game haha. So my mod will be done on my C70 and I have taken a few pages out of B NEGs handbook when it comes to the front plate modding as well as using copper tubing. My color scheme is going to be black and yellow. One, because I don't see it nearly enough and two a well done black and yellow build just looks incredible (IMO). I'm currently a student and only have a part time job so this won't be a quick build by any means, but I am trying to use quality components off the bat so the price of those also plays a factor. Hope you enjoy my SLOW build haha.

Current Specs:
i5 3570k @ 4.4 GHz
Asrock Extreme4
Corsair Vengeance 8GB
Intel 330 120GB
H100i
CX 750
EVGA 670 FTW 4GB

Planned

Watercooling:
Alphacool ST30 360mm
Alphacool NeXXos 240mm Monsta
XSPC Bay res
Laing D5
Watercool Heatkiller 1155 LT 3.0 w/ backplate
Watercool Heatkiller 680 Ni-bl hole edition w/ backplate
MIPS mobo blocks
Phobya push fittings
Enzotech fittings
8/10mm copper tubing (chrome plated)
Lamptron FC6
Corsair SP120

Upgrade Components:

ASRock OC Formula w/ MIPS blocks
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 2X8GB
Corsair AX850
Acer B246HLymdr X 3
2nd EVGA 670 FTW 4GB (Sli)

To do list:

Custom front panel for bay res along with fan controller
Relocate front I/O
Paint front panel
Install different mesh on front panel (modders mesh)
Custom window
Apply Di-noc in pattern
Mod case to fit 240mm Monsta up front under the drive bays
Build extensions for PSU
Swap out all fans for Corsair SP120s
Go SLI
Watercooling

I will also be taking ideas for customizing as well so if you have an idea feel free to let me know smile.gif

Update!

First thing first, removal of the power button

What the case looks like without power button (using reset button instead)

Inside

Out with the old

In with the new (can't wait until it's under water so I can really OC this puppy)

My fan of choice

Here is a piece of acrylic to clean up the drive bays

Before

After (Going to be painted black)

I couldn't just leave the rings for the fans the same color now could I?

I think they look much better

Bay Res has arrived! Along with the D5. (Big thanks to absoluteloki89 for the killer deal)

My first attempt to use vinyl (a little bubbly but not too bad, but it's definitely not staying)

Beginnings of custom front panel

First rough cut with drill press and dremel

Cleaned up a bit

Quick mock up to see if measurements were correct

And something not so related to my build but still a little bit. My birthday pie, yes that's right.

Those are all the updates for now, see you next time!
Recently got some pretty sweet things in the mail and have started some of the front panel modding along with some small case mods.

Did some slight beveling of the edges on the front panel.

Fan controller arrived and I'm pretty impressed with what I got. Every cable is black sleeved with black heat shrink and it looks really clean aside from the temp probe cables but those are black too.

Now that I have the fan controller i can finally cut the holes for in the front panel for it.

Cleaned up the cuts a bit.

Protective covering removed and you can see where I made a few mistakes. But not too bad for my first time working with acrylic, if I do say so myself. This is also going to be black along with a design in yellow.

Oh, what could this be?

Why they are the rads of course!

Alphacool ST30 360mm rad for the top

Alphacool Monsta 240mm for the front

No going back now. Plan is to use a different mesh styling for the front.

This bar was in the way.

A few rivets later and she was out.

Some more clearance issues have arisen.

All fixed (these will be repainted)

The bottom of the drive bays was also in the way for my plan so away it went.

The Monsta is looking...well quite monster-esque.

The front panel before:

And after. These will be cleaned up more and the plastic trim will also keep it looking nice and clean.

Just a little mock up to see what it will look like.

See ya next update!

Thanks for all the positive reception everyone smile.gif

That's a little more than double the thickness of my ST30 rad, so depending on your mobo it will be pretty tight fit, but probably doable.

Now on to what's going on with the build. I had a little time this weekend so I got a few small things sorted. At first I wasn't sure how I was going to mount the front rad so I experimented with few things before I settled.

First off was acrylic:

Here they are mounted and even before cleaning them up I wasn't feeling them at all. Not to mention the fact that they would not work for the center anyway.

So I went to my local hobby shop and picked up some aluminum and got to work:

Mock up and I think we have a winner:

Time to remove some metal:

Said metal removed:

Now time to clean up those cuts:

And the front rad is mounted. Brackets will be painted black:

And that's all for now. My Aquatuning order should be arriving tomorrow so stay tuned for the goodies! See ya next time and thanks for checking out my build thread.
