yea the 97.02's are gonna work fine, It happened to me, only once, hasn't done it sense, It was when I first got my card installed, and updated the drivers from 96.89. I am guessing this will be fixed with the next release of the drivers.

Yes, those will be the best bet. Honestly this issue has only effected me when I run NFS:MW. It is most definitely a driver issue that will be fixed in due time. Just hang in there!
