post #1 of 4

I've recently heard of people overclocking graphic card processors(news to me ) and was wondering how it works and how to do that. My comp sepcs are:

Cpu= Intel Pentium 4 extreme 3.73ghz 1066 front bus
Motherboard= Asus P5WD2 Premium
Graphic card= X-850XT Platinum(W/ arctic cooling's ATI Silencer. Standard cooler is a noisy lil' ***** )
RAM= 2x 512mb Kingston Hyperx 5400(i think) at 1066 FSB(again, i think )

*keep in mind i'm an overclocking nooby plz*

Google and download ATItool. It is an overclocking tool just for ATI based cards. It has an auto detect option which will find the max stable overclocks for your core and memory. Get it here.

From my experience if you take the time and find the right balance of memory oc and gpu oc you can pull some pretty decent 3dmark scores. I run that same card and it works great, never had a problem with it, just dont push the memory up too high(like over 637) or you will get artifact(distortion of the screen*basicly*) but give it a shot, but just remember specially since you are new to oc'ing to take it slow and dont burn up that fine piece of hardware if you need any more help make sure you post back, the people here are more than willing to help (even the nvidia owners)
