found a picture of what the heat spreaders look like (though mine don't have anything left labeling as pc3200 or anything. the stickers are kinda torn. But this looks exactly like the type on mine.

Hi RAM experts,
A while back I got a used 939 board that came with a 3800 and 2 sticks of RAM. I never got the thing to post and the CPU got used to practice delidding (which i did fine but managed to bust a pin off frown.gif At any rate I just pushed it all away and got a new board and it came with other RAM.

Well recently I picked the RAM up to test it and see if it was still good and maybe sell it. I finally got them to post and in CPU-Z the only Jdec timings say that they are 2 x 512MB DDR4200!!! There is no brand listed and the timings there are 3, 5, 5, 12 at 2.5V (though i know these are often wrong) I don't have the board in question hooked to the internet yet, so I can't post a screen of it. But did overclock them a bit to DDR450 and they are rock solid thus far at 3 4 4 9 1T The sticks have what look to be aftermarket copper heatsinks. there are no stickers that I can see other than a do not remove or you void your warranty type deal. Is there any way to find out what these are? I know there were very few PC4200 sticks made and they all already have heatspreaders that I can tell.

I just got and am learning the ins and outs of my new A8R32-MVP deluxe board so it may take me a while to figure out how to get the sticks up to their rated speed. If anyone has or has worked with pc4200 and knows the real story of what kind of volts and timings i need to be trying I would appreciate the help. I'm so stoked that I finally have a good pair of benching memory. I just had my ballistix pc4000 1 gig sticks die on me frown.gif but at least I won't have to buy new RAM if these are really ddr533.

You can just slide those aluminium clips upward and gently open the spreaders to see.

Also those Ballistix have a lifetime warranty , you could try sending them back.

Wow, that's exciting! Have you tried taking them up to 533MHz yet? Sounds like fun smile.gif

I was trying to avoid moving the spreaders if i can. Sometimes there is a thermal adhesive between IMCs and the spreaders (my ballistix come to mind) and I don't want to have to get new to properly reattach the HS. Though it may not have any, I won't be able to check until I get home.

@frogger4 I am pretty much testing all new components on this board (I've never really OCed the CPU much as I had another 165 that does 3 GHz easy and this one was all problems) Though when I swap CPUs and heatsinks tonight I'll try running up the RAM with a proven CPU to see if they can indeed handle DDR533 speeds. If i still can't get this board to OC then I'll toss em on the DFI and crank em up smile.gif I know it will run them as well, since i used it to memtest these sticks. though at the time I was using a vista boot drive and i doubt vista would be pretty running on only 1 gig tongue.gif So I didn't check the cpu-z on them until i decided to use them to test out this new asus board.

Most PC4200 sticks with 3-4-4-x timings use either Hynix D43 or Hynix D5 chips.wink.gif
