You may or may not recall OCN's 'Where's Nifty?' thread, and that there was a slight issue with getting it to the next person.

Well, when Nifty came back for inspection and to continue the traveling fun, he came with a friend - A Canonnet!

It's a film camera. You take pictures with it. It's nice, no?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canonet

Instead of sending it around with Nifty, I've spoken to a few people that believe we should do this separately (this will cut down on shipping costs for participating in Nifty - it's not that heavy, but there is alot of stuff traveling with nifty).

Sub had a chance to give the camera a good once-over and it looks like it's got problems that would require too much repair to make it feasible to ship around and use. It's a shame, but hey, at least we tried.

It needs a battery. The first person to get it will need to pick one up for it. I'll take one of the rolls of film from Nifty and include it for the first person since they need to get a battery (which really should stay with Canonet). Other than that, same basic rules apply as 'Where's Nifty' - take it, shoot with it for a weekish (do not keep this for more than two weeks), then contact the next person on the list, and send Canonet tracked to them (providing tracking information in this thread for all to see).

There's two rules for sign-ups -- you must have posted in the Official OCN Camera thread prior to this posting (we really want to keep this for the active members of our community, so I think this is a fair compromise). I'll consider changing this rule if we get to a point where everyone that's been a member prior to this post had their chance to shoot with Canonet. Also, in order to keep shipping costs fair, we're keeping it US only for now (also for tracking purposes).

If I can sub a ZincAir battery for it, just shoot it to me first, since I can just pop one in at work.

Just realized the post office delivered it like 3 hours ago and it's been sitting on my desk since. I'll check to see if I have a battery here that will work and test the meter (it will be off, FWIW).
Metering circuit is donezo. Even with 1.35v applied (from an external PSU), no dice. Doesn't work with a 357, nor any ZA or other 1.5v battery.

Ok guys, this thing is unusable. There's no shutter speed control so it's probably locked at 1/100 or 1/30 -- Bernie, I can send it back to you if you'd like, or back to R3, but it's not possible to get working without major teardown/electronics work.

boooooooooooooooooooooooooo

i was really excited about trying it out.

any ideas for a similar 35mm camera we can pass around that isnt expensive? if only we could find something like a konica hexar for cheap. that looks like a pretty solid little fixed lens 35mm RF

ill donate to fund the purchase of a simple fixed lens 35mm that belongs to OCN Photo community thumb.gif

Dang. Thanks for taking a look Sub. If you want to send it back to me, that's fine I guess. I'll find another use for it..
