Your camp gets overrun? Time to relocate, but you have no idea where to.
No objective markers, out of date maps, no clue where's safe and where isn't until you scout areas yourself, but then again zombie hordes and raiders are always moving. No place is safe forever with the would-be dynamic A-Life, inspired by X-ray engine. What you described could be the multiplayer portion of this.
Yeah, coop might be better, but if it's like the Walking Dead game, it would rely pretty heavily on story, and in turn make the openness of the world a little less useable. And, not having it PvPable would mean you'd have to rely on NPCs to do things. Something tells me this game would already be pretty heavy on resources without having to do AI for the millions of possible different tasks. And, finding people would become even more exciting if they could actually do things right. Or, alternatively, exciting because you don't know what they might do. Perhaps you would want to shadow them for some time to see what they're like. Total VOIP would be a necessity, and you could talk to people as needed, but they could only hear you if you were in a certain radius which would be realistic. Also, there would be a button for yelling that would increase that radius and let more people hear you, same for whispering and associated.
