The system I need help with right now is a 960, The raystorm will work well for this system as it's for my friend in the Army and he wont touch it unless he needs to maintain it.

Almost all motherboards/chips will run that speed stably in Auto.

The Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 REV 2.0 doesnt get me to 42 multiplier from what I was able to find unless I need some setting changed to do it.

I don't agree with this.

I've had about seven D0 Bloomfields, and at least two of them would never have done 4.2GHz, 24/7 stable even on high-end water. Only two could 4.2GHz on air, and one couldn't do 4GHz+ on anything.

I would also avoid AUTO settings, and even more especially XMP. Many XMP profiles on 1366/Bloomfield setups will apply blatantly unsafe QPI/VTT voltage trying to get memory to run at rated speed. Maybe 1-in-10 Bloomfields can run past DDR3-2000 in triple channel with 24/7 safe voltages, stably.

LGA-1366 OCs quite differently from 1155. There are no K series chips, the default BCLK is different, BCLK overclocking is typical, and there are more clocks and dependencies to worry about.

Why would you attempt a 42x multiplier? Default BCLK on 1366 is 133 and only the Extreme chips are unlocked, otherwise you increase the base clock.

For 4.2GHz on an i7 960 and an X58A-UD5 rev 2 (I have the same board) you should be forcing the 25x turbo multiplier and using a 168MHz BCLK..

Somewhere between DDR3-1600 and 2000 is the best you are likely to get stable. 2133 would require a 4266MHz uncore clock, which is not practical on anything except for the very best samples.

No, you're right. For some reason I had read his initial post as a 2600, and not a 960. Sometimes you see what you expect to see, I guess.

That would certainly explain the confusion.

Thanks for the catch - I'd hate to see him run into trouble because of my mistake.

So I keep getting blue screen of death above 175 BLCK I'm at 4296Mhz (4.29GHz) and its not happy but extremely stable at 175 (4.20GHz) Any suggestions? Everythings on AUTO for Voltage except for Ram which is at 1.660
post #17 of 26
Thread Starter
Ok so apparently even at 175 BCLK its not "stable" although I can use it normally without problems and even play "Tera" for over an hour with no problems when i ran burn test it blue screened on me after 10 minutes... Also why is it that in BIOS my CPU temp shows 43°C/40°C/45°C/38°C. But in Windows it shows Core 1 @ 21°C, 2 @ 18°C, 3 @ 24°C, and core 4 @ 16°C

I'm currently running my Voltages at Auto but have the Ram set to 1.660V any advice?

Anyone have some advise on getting this to 4.5? I'm currently at 4.3 and have everything set to AUTO for the Voltages. Is there a guide to Voltages based on OC speeds?

Also, When OCing is it possible to OC the RAM higher then what its rated? For instance my Vengeance ram is rated at 1600@1.5 Can i run it at 1866@1.660?
