My opinion on the whole deal: Most people outside of this forum wouldn't have even touched overclocking. It might sound alien to you, but everyone on this forum is an outlier, not the majority. I personally went with whichever card was actually in my budget and offered the most performance at the time, and I'll continue to do that when there is a new generation coming out. Whether it be AMD or Nvidia, I don't really care. These brand loyalism wars are just getting a tad bit ridiculous.

Let me stress this: Both sides are great cards. When you are already getting over the refresh rate of your monitor, who cares when they have a 5-7fps difference?

looks like you both agree biggrin.gif

I agree as well. brand loyalty and internet flame war is useless.

Doubtful. They are going ahead with the 7xx series soon and that will most likely beat the rest of AMD's line. I wouldn't put it past nVidia to rain all over AMD's parade and announce the "Twin Titan", a dual GPU version of it just to trash the new "official" 7990 as well as the 1 year old "unofficial" 7990's. Just to make AMD cry.

But AMD has to do one thing, that they haven't done in over a year ... fix Crossfire in their drivers. They have serious stuttering issues.

Gah, didn't read that part. I still stand by the fact that brand loyalism is just ridiculous.

Also, at least that post will still be up to show all of those that indeed in the configuration that the majority of consumers are going to use, Stock, that the GTX 680 did indeed beat the 7970 at release.

Still, they were and still very much are good cards in their own right.

I don't care which is better or not, but do a little bit of research for release day benchmarks of the GTX 680 vs the 7970 and you will see that you are completely incorrect.

If you want the TL;DR of their tests, then here is their conclusion if you don't want to read through the entire article.
The tests were done with AMD's 12.3 driver and Nvidia [Forceware] 296.10

Make of it what you will, but X-bit is definitely considered among the community as a reliable review source, unlike many other sources out there. If you want to look at how performance progressed through time, feel free to look at all of the links at: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviewdb/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA/GTX-680/

i think most people forget that and since every GPU owner is a consumer that should be the main concern of most. (and this is also why the top of the line flagship cards sale kinda poorly compared to the medium tier mainstream ~200$ cards which dominate the Desktop GPU sales)

and as for the overclocking thing, i'd like to add that there is a HUGE amount of people who barely know who AMD (or for the ones who do know, most know them as still ATI) is as a GPU maker (let alone CPU) and this is a terrible thing. luckily now it is changing and cleaning the mess of the notorious TWIIMTBP.

AMD acknowledged the issue, so far has been working hard to fix it, and this card will be released inline with a brand new driver release that comes with severe improvements in said department.

Now, your proofs about it stuttering like hell?

Guess I can be the only mature nvidia user here....

AMD cards are just plain faster this round. Period. Especially given the driver improvements AMD have been making since November. You could go ahead and say something like "but what about Titan?". I have news for you, at $1000 for a Titan, it's not even relevant in the equation.

And as far as the "Nvidia should just release a titan x2 to make AMD cry" idea goes; You're right, they could do that. It won't make anyone cry at a hefty $2000 price tag. Fail logic. You have to realize, most of us don't live in our parents basement without the responsibility of a mortgage/rent (cause we really believe OCN is filled with data analysts/computer operations directors...lol). We care about our dollar. Spending $1000 on a card that can't max out EVERY game in existence, no offense, is just stupid.

Comparing the 7970 vs 680 at stock is kind of pointless because of the ridiculous clocks the 680 boosts to at stock.

Overclocked vs overclocked is only fair, if anything.
