To mark products slightly down and then charge outrageous shipping is kind of a slimey move. Like I said when it cost more to ship something from Florida to Arizona and it can be shipped from another country for less there is something wrong.

"product + shipping + taxes" well this is all fine and good when you are not a monopoly... When FCPU was around this was not an issue now they are gone and its a major issue.

Now part of the fault is usps, I just used there calculator. If you were to use your own box it would be 15 dollars to ship from me to them. If I was to use a flat rate box (the block would and does fit in a small.) it would be 6 dollars, however they are charging 22. Small businesses are allowed to use Flat Rate, they should do that.

I use my own boxes all the time with USPS and as long it's within the same dimension of their box, the cost is the same, If you have an account, you even get a slight discount, too.

We know PPC is making a profit off shipping, so it's best to order larger quantity of things to lessen the impact and use these discount codes. I know that can't always be done though.

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with the cost of shipping. When shopping around for something, I couldn't give the north end of a southbound furry little rodent how much shipping costs since I compare the bottom line—product + shipping + taxes—and usually go with the least expensive one overall (vendor reliability, shipping time, customer service, etc. are other factors I consider). There is no such thing as "free shipping"; the cost of the shipping is just factored into the price of the product. Also, the higher the volume a company ships in a given period of time, the less profit margin is needed to stay in business (usually, some of the big companies will still gouge their customers, especially if they have somewhat of a monopoly for their products or have established a good reputation and decide to abuse it).

I thInk it's very interesting you don't care about the shipping cost when I see all these companies (large and small) on TV that have big concerns about shipping costs. They know how that affects business sales. You must not run a business. Sell anything on line and one of the main things customers are concerned with is shipping costs because they know it can kill a sweet deal or they know if it's too high that the seller is a shiiiister trying to low ball them. I see it all the time of Ebay and it doesn't sell like the other reasonably price item.

I guess you can say that the cost of the box is in the shipping fees, but that's not how the poster stated. He made it sound as if they have to go to the store and buy boxes, when in essence they don't for USPS. I know I don't. I just go to USPS and grab as many boxes as I need without shipping one thing.

As far as free shipping, it depends. I can find the same product at the same price point (MSRP) from the retail stores to the internet, but there's typically one store that don't charge shipping at the same price point, while others do, so in essence it's free shipping. This is very prevalent in the photography gear market.

As stated above, folks have no issue with shipping costs. The problem arise when being gouged. I know a 2lb item shipped USPS should cost no more than $6 no matter where it goes in the states and not $13 or $15. I can see a few dollars for handling, but not more than the actual shipping cost itself, if handling is not already part of the cost of the merchandise.

If there was stiffer competition, they would rethink things, but as it stands now there's really no competition. I try and find similar items (especially smaller ones) on Amazon when I can to avoid their shipping costs.

It depends. You need to call them. You can try email, but they may not get it in time. They are excellent with customer service.

A few months ago I ordered a 4 pack of primochill fittings. Someone else actually let me have there's for free (an awesome member in this community), so I didn't need the ones I ordered. A few hours later I called and this was after my order was already ready to ship. An employee went and found my package and took the item out.

So give them a call. Most likely they can work with you.

I placed an order on sunday, emailed them monday morning to add something. They just had me buy it, choose cheapest shipping and then credited me back the shipping and packed it all together.

I dont mind PPC shipping costs, i really dont see them out of line either. I get 2 day shipping from them even on the cheapest USPS option on small items.

You aren't paying attention. In post #357, I said I have had three businesses. You are completely missing the point about comparison shopping based on the bottom line: product price + shipping cost + taxes. Anyone who bases their decision on who to buy from based solely on low or free shipping is foolish (granted, a lot of people do just that).

Btw, there is a sort option on eBay that will sort products in a search by price + shipping from low to high. That's the one I use. I will buy in a heartbeat from someone who charges for shipping over others with "free" shipping if the bottom line is less. I also consider other variables, such as if the vendor reputation is 98% or better and location (if I can buy something Stateside for only a little more than something from China, I'll buy locally since it can take anywhere from two weeks to over a month to get things from China to the US and the tracking available on Chinese shipments is a joke, even after they have been handed off to the USPOS).

Amazon has been turning into a ripoff. I frequently (more than 50% of the time) can find items cheaper (based on bottom line) elsewhere, sometimes even locally, for less, often considerably less, than what Amazon sells it for. Where I live, Amazon charges for sales tax, which raises the price somewhat. But, Amazon simply is no longer always the low price leader anymore. In fact, to a degree, Amazon is becoming somewhat crooked. They combine reviews of many products to improve the overall rating of many items. They do not regulate their Marketplace vendors very well, allowing some of them to display pictures of products that do not accurately depict what the product actually looks like and refuses to do anything about it when it is brought to their attention. If you do not buy into Amazon's Prime extortion scheme, when you qualify for free shipping by ordering more than $35 worth of merchandise, Amazon will deliberately delay filling an order to ensure you will have to wait longer to receive it. I don't mind the slower shipping that comes from free shipping but I do have issues with them holding up an order to retaliate for not paying their extortion.

Can we all just drop the shipping charges. They could charge $50 to ship a small item and we all know we would still pay it. Lol

Some places do just that. The problem with it is people who live closer to the vendor will be subsidizing part of the shipping costs to people farther from the vendor.

This is why I stopped buying items from Amazon, or items fulfilled by Amazon.

The way Amazon operates is more beguiling than many people realize, especially if you're new to Amazon. At the start, they will fulfill your first few orders (have orders picked, packed, and out of the door) as fast as any Amazon Prime member's order, so only the carrier type will determine shipping time, even with their free "super-saver" shipping. They do this in an attempt to attract new customers to look at Amazon first for their online shopping experience. It's not until some pre-determined time has past before Amazon will start to not meet those same expectations. One way they do this is by intentionally delaying fulfilment of your order placed with free shipping. Suddenly, a customer's order can take as much as a week after it's placed before it's even picked off the shelf. They make no secret of this fact. If you complain to CS, they will respond with what's in the order agreement policy (that nobody reads). If you want fast service (orders guaranteed to arrive within 2-3 business days) you should consider becoming an Amazon Prime member for $99/year. Orders placed by non-Prime members can take as much as 10 business days to arrive. It's no coincidence that this stark realization doesn't occur with most everyone until after they suck you in first.

Okay that's all fine and dandy, but I'll pass on the $99 fee, mostly because I don't order enough from them to justify it, and instead just rather order from their vendors that directly ship to their customers or (more likely) just shop elsewhere.

Well there is a shady way around that, anyway that said I have never experienced that problem. I order with out prime and with prime all the time.

Shady (Unethical) Way (Click to show)
My shady way involves amazon mom, and a few email addresses, If you get an amazon mom membership it lasts for 3 months. After it expires 1 year later you can get that again. So all you have to do is have 4 email addresses, sign up one when it runs out sign up another.

Its not hard for me as I have 3 anyway and then we use my wifes for the fourth, though I dont much use amazon anymore so I do not really bother.
