Erm ok weird question.

Can I run a fx4100 on an asus M5A78L-M/USB3 using the onboard graphics or would I need a dedicated gpu?

You should have no trouble running the onboard GPU. Might I ask what you'll be using the system for and what other components you will be using?

You could, but you shouldnt expect any good performance

Asus board
Fx4100
Corsair 1333 cl9 ram 4gb atm but will probly go 8.
Fractal core 1000
Corsair 430wm psu
Seagate hdd
Stock cooler
might hunt in ebay for a cheap gtx650/7750

Its not for me its for my parents they need a new pc, they have a p4 3ghz atm with 1gb ram.

Nother question can I oc the chip on this board?

Ive but the rig at a cost of £160.

You could OC the chip, but for what benefit? Do your parents do anything on the machine worth buying a new cooler to overclock?

Also that PSU may not support a gtx 650 or HD 7750

i doubt you would get that far before the VRMs start to overheat and throttle. also, that power supply would be fine for a 7750/650.
