The less expensive, the better.

I know it feels like a stupid question, but how do you guys feel about ACER laptops?

For basic use like you, it is perfect. Anything higher than basic use like gaming, it is recommended to grab a good brand laptop like ASUS, MSI, Sager and etc.

Here, I found two perfect laptop for under 300 dollar without including tax.

First one is probably Asus AMD A8, its integrated GPU packs a punch against all intel integrated GPU.

Second is probably ASUS intel i3U which that CPU is ultra voltage meaning it'll use less voltage on your battery and allowing you have more battery life.

I prefer ASUS because of their sexy design. Acer its okay.

I know it is refurbished not new, but it looks decent.

BTW, if you have the time, you can use PSCheck to undervolt the A8, which will reduce power consumption.

How does this PSCheck work? Is it safe and would I be able to do the same with an i3?

This is an i5 ULV by Acer.
Like I said, Acer laptops is good if you only use it for basic otherwise you have to get better brand name such as MSI, ASUS, Samsung, XoticPC, Clevo, Sager and etc,

Well, that i3 is already good enough for your battery life, so there's no need to under clock them further more.

That i5 might be a little expensive however the CPU performance is better than AMD.
Again, it depend on you.

I3/i5 is better in term of CPU performance however AMD has a huge advantage in term of integrated processor.

If you like intel, go with i5 because it might be better for you, in my case, I would go for AMD because of low end laptops.

If I go with the A8 like you guys are suggesting and just undervolt it to save some battery life, would this be a good pick:

Well, if you compare intel hd 4000 or intel HD 5000 to run things like games.
AMD integrated GPU WILL destroy intel hd 4000 or 5000.

AMD integrated GPU can run a lot of games that the intel integrated processor can't.

However the CPU itself, intel speed will win compare to AMD.

I would go with better brand like ASUS because their qualities are better than HP.

ASUS makes their own parts while HP use parts from other companies.

You can go with HP if you want. Just that I heard HPs laptop have an incredibly bad cooling.

I won't be using this laptop for gaming at all though but its good to know for future reference.
My gaming PC has an i5 on it though so I won't be changing that for a while.

The heat up too much compared to others?
I liked it for the fact that it looks nicer than the ASUS, has an extra USB slot, and DVD drive, for basically the same price as the ASUS I was looking to get.
I am also looking into upgrading their RAM. Just gotta find a good set for a good price as well.

EDIT: I see what you mean regarding HP though. It's funny how much you learn when you research things.
