Weird, mine sounds like its on, I believe it´s a bit louder @ idle than the fans that were on my 2500k and two gtx570 in SLI.
@ load, thought, it´s much more quiet. I also asked my wife and she agrees. smile.gif

mine is quiet period. but your idle temps may be higher since i don't have anything oc'd
