8800 Ultra was just an 8800 GTX with higher clocks.
This claimed TITAN Ultra has more unlocked shaders/ ROPs over the vanilla TITAN.

This is possible but i doubt yields are that good to make this profitable. Besides, they would make much more money by making a fully enabled tesla and sell it instead of a geforce version.

On a more serious note... this would be awesome, seeing a Titan LE/regular/Ultra and the 7990. It's almost like the Titan is the 'unofficial and super expensive dream 700 series cards.' I'm going to seriously have a laugh when nvidia releases the inevitably less powerful albeit more modestly priced 700 series as their mainstream lineup.

My GPU upgrade decisions are getting harder by the day. At least my 7970 isn't failing me yet, so lets just wait and see thumb.gif

This is pretty obviously not going to happen. The primary reason Nvidia even released the Titan was so they could do something with all the GK110 chips that couldn't go into Tesla cards. It could be possible, as improved yields could give them enough of these chips to sell a new, slightly bumped up version, but I just don't see them going through all the trouble.

To be fair it's likely with the LE variant on the horizon, maybe Titan will indeed be a family of it's own.

I'll just get 2x680s in July and be done with upgrading the insides of my case for a little while.

But if Titan LE arrives (assuming the rumor mill is true) by July at a similar price point to the 680s then I would seriously consider 2 of them instead.

Titan is supposed to be the 680 but it's so powerful that they decided not to release it as 680. now it's turning out that titan is so powerful, they decided to gimp out the titan so that they can release a full blown titan as titan ultra.

Early adopters got screwed, lol.
Seriously doubt they're willing to piss off so many of the buyers who've already invested in the Titan by releasing this quite extremely soon afterwards. I can imagine people seeing this as a cruel move even if they hadn't bought a Titan themselves. Seems like it'd be a rather unnecessary addition to the lineup honestly and the jump in memory speeds seems a bit off. If it were true, I'd be displeased to say the least sad-smiley-002.gif
