What determines sensitivity to FOV?

I was having a discussion with a bud of mine as we were playing an FPS game(MW2 specifically) and the default FOV is 65. He says that this makes him sick, and I'm well aware of how low FOV can affect somebody, but my question is why am I not bothered in the slightest by low FOV, and yet my friend has to be at ~90 minimum just to be able to stand to play the game without feeling sick?

That's like asking why some people get car/see sick and some don't or why some get headaches from 3D movies and others don't. Its just some are more susceptible than others.

Hm, don't know why I assumed something like that wasn't directly comparable. Welp, that answers that question then lol, thanks + rep.

Low FoV massively annoys me to the point where I wont play the game if it has no option to increase the FoV. A FoV of 65 is serious tunnel vision. Cant stand it
