Can't get my 7950 working! Help - Page 2

post #11 of 29
Hmmmm, I think Dark or another senior member is best suited to helping you with this. My 7950's run fine on the modded drivers and DistrRTgen. I'm haven't really run Milkyway but I did get a similar error from Moo wrapper on my 7850 and still can't get that project to run.
If you try DistrRTgen, under the 'your account' section, click on 'DistrRTgen preferences' and then make sure you have "Run test applications?" set to YES. Like this:

I didn't have it set like that at first and it didn't give me any work.
I'm not good with cc_config files but it might be worth trying without that one and also maybe try leaving a CPU core free.
It's also worth asking if you used driver sweeper when switching between different drivers? (just to cover all bases)

Alright, i got it to work, finaly.

What i did is remove my drivers with AMD's driver remover. Then i installed Darkryder's 13.1 amd drivers that are modded for OpenCL because the regular drivers apparently don't have OpenCL support.

Then i went into my Milkyway settings and allowed CPU work. I updated the project and then all of a sudden it started running.

Thank you all for your help!

Next problem would be that my GPU isn't being fully used. It goes up to 80% but doesn't go any higher.

Glad you got it working smile.gif

When I run 2 milkyway tasks on my 7950 it never goes above 90 % and for one task it stays at around 80 - 85% , For me to hit 95% loaded I need to run 3 or more WU at once .

I'm not much of a expert on this , just observing what My GPU does with different numbers of WU running at once , so im not really sure what the Loading should be .

Why do you run 2 WU's on 1 card? Is it more effecient that way? And how do you do it?

For some projects on some cards it is, it would appear that running more than 1 on the AMD 7 series is more efficient in milkyway (not the case with the 6 series). You will need to finish up any units you are currently crunching and then create an app_info.xml file in order to crunch more than 1 per card (I am sure someone can help you out with this, I do not have the file for this particular project).

Seems to work better , Takes 50 Seconds do a single one , but if I do 2 at a time then its 1min 20 seconds per 2 , Plus I like running 2 biggrin.gif . I did run 5 at a time at one point ; took 6 Minuets to do 5 WU

at 50 seconds per one that's 100 seconds for 2 , where as doing 2 a time at 1.20 , that's 80 seconds . so its 20 seconds faster to do 2 a time than 1 at a time .

To do it you place a App. file inside the projects folder of that project

Mine is set to , CPU - 0.1 , GPU - 0.5 , that means it will run 2 tasks on the GPU and need 0.1 worth of CPU for each task ( 0.05 for the CPU works fine too )

1 GUP = 1 WU
0.5 GPU = 2 WU
0.33 = 3 WU
0.25 = 4 WU
0.2 = 5 WU

Ect ...

I have a App file I could send you that set for 2 GPU tasks , You can change it to your liking with Notepad to edit the app file smile.gif

Thanks for the file. By the way, are you overclocked on your 7950?
I do 36 seconds on overclock, vs 50 seconds on stock. Real i even noticed a 8 seconds difference from 1575mhz memory to 1780mhz memory, pretty good utilization of the card in boinc!

No Problem smile.gif

I run stock as I have the PC in my room and the fan is set to 44% manually so it doesn't keep me awake , Temps are 68 - 70 C .
