thermal paste application

Thread Starter
hi all
am starting this thread so to make a collection of how everyone applys thermal paste
would be grateful if people can post pics to show how they apply and how much and where they place it
reason for this is i have read so many times people say use the pea size method or spread or line method so pictures if pos would be great (i know noone will wanna reseat the coolers/blocks ) but keep in mind the next time you have to redo you thermal paste and take a pic and post it here
info to put with pictures should consist of what TIM is used temps @idle/load and the cooler/block used and clock speed

to anyone and everyone that contributes thank you thumb.gif

i should be adding pics soon as i get time to get to my pc (started this while @ work ) Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
arctic silver 5
hydro h100
idle temps 26c
phenom ii x4 965 @ stock
will update more temps when i get chance to put some heat through it

when you say dot what size dot
this is why i asked if pos people could post pics so everyone has a visual aid to compare to
i personally spread the tim over my h100 block into the thinest even layer i can and put a tiny blob in the middle of the cpu

Forget the even layer. You're only going to create possible air bubbles that way. Remember, you don't need to cover the entire CPU. You could leave TIM off the very edges and as long as the center area (where the cores are) are covered, it will be cooled just as well. The dot needs to be a little smaller than a pea on most CPUs. The only exception of course are direct heat pipe coolers with gaps. Coolers like that need two lines in the gapes to ensure the paste fills in the gap.

Edit: here's a guide I like

nice read thank you but really am after a collection of pics that show everyones thermal paste methods
just saying pea size dot or small dot does not always help everyone because everyones idea of a small dot is different so visual adds ( user pics ) of how to apply and how much would be very helpful
