This brown pcb is what MSI is using on all their ref looking cards, OC, TF3, Reference (if you can call it that).

I had a Sapphire and an MSI Ref in your link above. They had the same exact color PCB. AMD sells the reference PCBs in different colors and they can be blue, red, matte black (like power color's ref) and have different stamps on them as well. If the AIB wants it, then they get it. If it has an "Advanced Micro Devices" stamp on the rear, its a reference card.

Also, that lighter brown reference card is not MSI R7970-2PMD3GD5, its MSI R7970-2PMD3GD5/OC hence the 'MSI' stamped bracket and the non reference blower cooler. Its the same PCB as the TF3 7950.

I got my Diamond Radeon 7970 reference card today from Newegg. I'll be posting pics of it along with I'll be testing it out later this weekend. tongue.gif Also, Newegg did ship me the free games after I talked with them before they added the promo to it.

From what I am getting from other ppl, they are sending out the OC/TF3 pcb.

Read the quote, or traverse to Red's actual post. He says that brown alt pcb came with that sku.

** I remember right, last time I was in MC, they had the ref sku cards there, but the box showed the OC sku's cooler.

I didn't open mine yet because I requested an RMA and bought a GTX 780 instead. But you seem to be correct. I actually owned the OC model and it had a 78% ASIC score and clocked to 1250 with reasonable temps. That blower cooler is actually slightly better than the reference. (Blower fan is slightly bigger) I personally think its not a bad thing but MSI should be changing the part numbers on their models. My box is completely generic compared to the old Ref 7970 box with the same p/n.

well now that i know that the 780 is NOT gonna happen!

do you guys suggest me giving a shot to a 7970 twin frozer 3 ??? how was yours??? 1200 core with stock voltage?

im debating between waiting for the 760ti or getting the 7970 since is on special today for 399$

is it quiet? this is a deal breaker

and the fact that with the sapphires i had no audio passthru the DVI to HDMI adapter wich is something i have done and i am doing atm with my gtx 460!

with the 780 pricing i dont expect the 770 and 760ti to be any cheaper than current alternatives

Gerbacio, if you are shooting for 1200mhz, stay away from MSI anything right now. They seem to be cheaping out with the PCB and GPUs themselves. Units have lots of coilwhine too.
