pfft, intel is the bad.

i don't know how s939 supplies are getting in europe, but if you can get ahold of an opty 165 w/ a decent s939 motherboard and some good DDR ram (either bh-5 or tccd) you'd be set for a long time.

am2 boards aren't worth it IMO. s939 is going to be cheaper, and if you go the opty way you can overclock the proc to around 2.7 to 3 ghz numbers...

if you're going to get an am2 socket, you might as well just (sigh) get a conroe..... or wait for AMD's 65nm chips to come out to see how they overclock.

An opty 170 is better than the 165, but only by clockspeed. It would be best to get an opty 165, and then overclock it to 170 speeds and beyond. More performance out of cheaper parts is always good! And yes, the Opty 165 and 170 are dual core.

in all honesty i bet you'll have a better overclocking experience w/ the opty 165. if you hear of a really high overclock on a dual core opty, big chance its going to be the godlike 165.

I guess you might be able to get to 2.7 with stock cooling, but it is not the best idea. If you want 2.7-3.0, you will have to get some aftermarket cooling.

stock cooling you'll get around 2.6 GHz i'd say. you need to get a big typhoon or a tuniq tower if you're thinking about gettin an opty though. its a wise investment.
