At launch a 7970 was 29% faster than a 6970. (less than the difference between Titan and 7970)
Right now a 7970 is 42% faster than a 6970. (same as the difference between 680 and Titan)
And a 7970 GHz is 56% faster than a 6970

really?

so how can you not believe.?

usually, the X70 GTX model, is a card that features the high end GPU.
not the gpu for the mid-range

GF100 = GTX480 - 470
GF104 = GTX 460
GF110 = GTX580 - 570
GF114 = GTX560

then perhaps the new series would look like:

GK110 = GTX 780 - GTX 770
GK104 = GTX 760

Yes
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
TPU gives you actual reviews. Anand has a database that compares cards from all sorts of different drivers, game versions etc. with each other.

I don't understand the point you're trying to make, but do you give this much grief to 3960X/3970X owners?
How about people who spend 50% more on a 3770K for a gaming rig when a 3570K would give them the exact same performance?
Titan is 45% faster than a 500$ regular reference 2GB 680 card, add 4GB of GDDR5 and a much better cooler and you end up with 1K$.
Why is this so hard to understand?

No, they were from a specific point in time (with the newer one being pretty much up to date since it was from the titan review) which was the whole point (cards tested in same conditions). At launch the difference between the 7970 and the 6970 was smaller than the one between titan and 7970GHz today. And the difference between the 7970 and the 6970 today is as big as the difference between Titan and 680 today.

This twice as fast stuff seems to come up every gen. It always falls apart when you actually check the numbers.

I would also check out anand's GPU13 bench to check out what it says but the comparison isn't working.

And since this thread is about the 700 series I will refrain from discussing titan vs. 7970 so much. I encourage everyone else to do the same.

my overclocked Titan has actually overtake a lot, the overclocked 680 possessed before. much faster.
and it is incredibly close to the performance of my previous sli 670 oc.
as a single gpu is really remarkable. But it costs a lot, unfortunately.

Why is this so hard to understand?

I didnt spent 50% more for a 3770k as a matter of fact i think it was like $35 or 40 bucks more after taxes on micro center.

I would prefer a 3930K. 6gb of vram it is too much for what is needed..
Titan is not powerful enough to drive those resolutions with new games...

Try cranking up crysis 3 on a single titan on a good resolution and see what happens those 6gb are doing nothing for you...

When one single card is enough to run newer games at least @ 1440P at the standard 60 most of the time then we can talk about that vram size...
