E6600 First Go At Overclock Please Comment - Page 2

Yeah... that would work for me if I had a mobo that would allow me to change the multi!!!! This darn DFI would NOT let me do so Waiting for RD600.... still waiting... and waiting... grrrrr..

And I did hit 3.5GHz... including 3DMark benchies (just not prime stable). but too much volts for my taste, and running a tad hot

For the others, that's a good advice!

just used both of your info and settings and heres the new stat,
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=145804
cpu temp has raised to 40 at idle
will test some heavy load to see peak temp in a sec
can anyone reccomend what temps to be wary of with this chip please
thanks again for the help

Download Intel's TAT tool here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/392/mirrors.php

Or Core Temp here:
http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/

With those tools, the max temp you want to have is around 60C. This is when running dual prime 95 or Orthos. The built-in tool in TAT apparently puts an insane load on the CPU, resulting in a bit higher temps. I don't think you'll ever encounter those kinds of loads in real daily use.

ok, just ran the tat program and here are the temperatures i had after about 1 min of 100% cpu load

20:37:42: Processor 1 : DIGITAL TMP[ 65°C ]
20:37:44: Processor 0 : DIGITAL TMP[ 65°C ]

drops straight back down to 40 degrees at idle

here is 75% load

Those temps are pretty high, but you might get away with it if you are stable as of now.

I get temps similar to you, but I'm at 3.5ghz and I use liquid cooling. In my opinion, you shouldn't be going above that. When I want some realistic load temps, I run 3d mar '06 because my temps don't go higher than what I get when I game intensively. To be safe, I don't go past 65C on a core 2 duo, but I allowed myself to hit 67C for the sake of hitting 3.5ghz. Realistically, I get around 55C when I game or encode DVDs. and about 47C idle.

wow, people are gettin really high temps for a 1ghz OC.

im on a e6600 @ 3.65ghz w/ 1.425v (setting in bios, 1.38v after droop) under a cnps9700 too. im getting temps of 62 (ihs) and around 65~67 for each core.

i would say im pretty stable. ran TAT for a good hour and ran 3dmark06 w/o lockups or w/e

whats your voltage setting GM0N3Y79?

You have a good chip there xxpinoyxx!! 1.425V and 3.65GHz? NICE!! I want!

I got a lousy one... need to crank up the volts just to stay more or less stable at 3.5GHz....

does that cnps9700 work well? My mom ordered me one for christmas and I am hoping to get up to 3.6. Right now on stock cooling at 2.8ghz my vcore is 1.136 and 28C idle 50C load.
