CPU & Motherboard affect on Memory benchmarks

Thread Starter
Using the same memory in 3 different comps I am getting very different WEI scores (I know WEI is a poor assessment):

Memory is G Skill Ripjaw 2x2GB 1333 CAS 8-8-8-24

Athlon II 255 (dual core) / Biostar MB - WEI score 7.1 (7.2 OCed)
Phenom II 955 / MSI motherboard - WEI score 7.5 (7.6 OCed)
FX-6100 / Asus Motherboard - WEI score 7.8 (no OC score yet)

It fits with, the better the CPU the higher the score, but 7.1-7.8 is a really big swing, is this normal?

Prob doesn't differentiate cpu memory interface from actual memory and the FX has the higher memory interface.

All 3 CPU's have different architectures. Athlon has no L3 cache,FX obviously is different. Also your IMC/HTT settings are going to be different, seeing as how the Athlon is locked vs the Phenom.

Sorry, actually "affect" is correct: http://web.ku.edu/~edit/affect.html smile.gif

I had a big debate on a forum over keeping the P II (w/AM3 motherboard) or the FX, decided to keep the FX w/AM3+ motherborad. I will probably upgrade to a 6300 or 83xx a little later.

Is there any way you can run an actual benchmark to see if there is any synthetic difference in memory performance?
I presume as Redwoodz said it's due to the cpu differences mostly.

I use a 32gb 1600 kit and a 16gb 2133 (OCed to 2600) kit and WEI rates my 32gb at 7.9 but my 16gb at 7.2 and the 16gb kit stomps the other in benchmarks.

Sandra soft will do fine. A lot of different benches and a lot of info, bordering on the side of TOO much info. thumb.gif
