No problem, I like to help out where I can. I'll give you an update as to where I am. I'm taking a suggestion made by lewisner and trying to block off the sides around the fan that are open. This will also help me place a filter over the fan to do those tests. Speaking of which, I don't have have screen mesh on hand at the moment so I found the next best thing; some material for a scarf similar to nylon, but not as elastic. I also cut out a 200mm circle in another sheet of cardboard. Next step is figuring out how to get the material over the cardboard and not have it get sucked into the fan. ;p

OK, I've been lazy, but I got to modifying the box and making a filter for it. I cut the box to make it smaller to fit the fan and then I added some supports on the inside to keep it from tipping. For the filter, I doubled up the material to try and make it more restrictive airflow wise. Then I added it to the cutout I made for the fan and tested.

Without filter: ~70* on protractor
With filter: ~60* on protractor

I also tried to put the filter in front of the fan, but I don't have anything setup for that so I ended up just holding the fan as best as I could. This obviously was a poor test and wouldn't say the results I got were as reliable compared to my other tests, but it seemed to be ~50* on the protractor. I will be able to get better test results when I get my hands on some screening material. Until then enjoy my video and images.

NOTE: Ignore sound, it is from my really loud 120mm fans on my heatsink and the blower fan on my GPU.

Ordered the bitfenix 230mm for my haf xb... It actually fits the mounting holes which are for a 200mm fan. Doesn't move near as much air as I expected but it covers a huge area including both my 660 ti's as well as the vrm.

It makes less noise then the 200mm version

Probably my last update with these fans unless someone wants me to test something else with them.

With the screen mesh I acquired, both pushing and pulling resulted in the paper going to ~68*-69* on the protractor where as without the screen it was ~70*, but this is within margin of error. So, if you are just using screen mesh, then it has little to no effect on the fan's performance.

At the Noctua booth at Computex 2013 Noctua has shown a 200mm fan prototype

I say holy crap this is awesome maybe now we can get a good 200mm fan

So far from what i have seen about all fans larger that 140mm they tend to be poor at delivering the airflow needed, you are usually better off with 2 120mm fans and they will be quieter too.

Yes but the HAF X case i have only has room for 200mm not 120mm fans so i am stuck with the Bitfenix Spectre Pro fans as my best option
