If for gaming, get a desktop! Laptops and gaming don't combine well.

However, I am taking a look

Here is Dell:
  • PROCESSOR: Intel® Coreâ„¢ Duo Processor T2250 (1.73GHz/533MHz FSB)
  • OPERATING SYSTEM: Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005, English
  • LCD DISPLAY: 17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display
  • MEMORY: 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
  • HARD DRIVE: 120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
  • OPTICAL DRIVE: 8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
  • GRAPHICS CARD: 256MB NVIDIA® GeForceâ„¢ Go 7900 GS
  • BATTERY OPTIONS: 80 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
  • WIRELESS NETWORK CARD: Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card (54Mbps)
  • SOUND OPTION: Integrated Audio
  • WARRANTY: 1 Year Return to Depot Service and Technical Support
  • Network Card: Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem

No Core 2 Duo, but Core Duo is not that much slower (still core technology, and Dual Core). Also, the Dell has the smaller hard drive.

However, the Dell has a better video card and a 17" screen. I think it's a better gaming lappy.

Cost: $1,789 CAD (thus the same as the Acer)

It's a matter of what you prefer. Slightly slower CPU and smaller HDD in exchange for better video and larger screen...

haha of course! but then yeah with a "gaming" laptop i can bring it to friends house easily lol...troublesome to disconnect everything...

btw...i know that C2D and Core Duo procs are about the same in performance for lapps (at best 13%)...would the dell's 1.7ghz CD be alot slower than the acer's 2.0ghz C2D?

It's be a bit slower... but still more than plenty to match that 7900.

I think the advantages of the better video/larger screen outweigh the weaker CPU. It's just that the Core 2 Duo is so darn powerful that we're starting to set it as a 'standard', although that much power is not necessary at all for good gaming performance.

It's still a single card rig... and the Core Duo will handle the single 7900GS easily imo.

And personally, I'd give quite some value to that 17" screen for gaming.
