Want to take a quick guess at who made DVD?

On one side you had Toshiba, Time Warner, Matsu****a Electric, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, Pioneer, Thomson, and JVC. On the other side you had Philips and Sony. When IBM was approached, they didn't want a repeat of the VHS vs Sony Betamax crap, so they said "No deal unless they ALL agree" and a Technical Warning Group consisting of Apple, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, Dell, and many others was set up. The standard that came out of ALL of those companies became DVD.

Bottom line, it was no single company (or even 1 or 2 puppet companies), like Betamax and BluRay (which was, once again mainly just Sony and Phillips).

You have got to be kidding me, $500 a year for a gpu? I spend like $200-$300 once every two years or more and I can still keep up with the latest games, maybe not at the highest settings but still...a $500 gpu should cover you at least 2 maybe 3 years....rolleyes.gif

Agreed. I get a $200-$250 GPU every 2.5 years and I can't remember ever being barred from playing a game at launch.

If you upgrade every year you recoup about half the original purchase cost by selling the old hardware, basically that means $500 a year gets you top of the line SLI. Unless, of course, if you prefer to make modern art with expensive computer components. Then your dollars don't stretch quite as far.

while the GPU you buy now will certainly be better and be able offer considerably better visuals, your performance/experience will be much worse than what you'd see on a console.

Issue with PC cards, you buy a nice card now, you max everythign with high AA and resolution and framerate. Year after year, you'll have to continually either lower graphical detail, lower AA, lower resolution, or lower expectations. Even if those details are still higher than the console, the lack of max resolution/AA/FPS is much more apparent up in front of a monitor, and your experience be less than when you first bought your GPU.

Consoles however, seem to only get better over time. Visuals improve over that 5 year time as the developers gain more experience with the hardware and find out what works. It provides a consistent experience overtime (big plus)

You would rather have consistently bad visuals than high fidelity graphics that slowly have to be tweaked down between upgrades?

LOL and I thought the X360 was bad...

You know the brainless heap will line up with their credit cards in their hands.. it is inevitable.

I'd rather have both. And I wouldn't say consoles have bad visuals. I think Forza/Halo/Gears of War looks great.

Did I say that. Pretty sure I was referring to MY internet connection. If your internet is spotty, take that up with your ISP. I don't see people flipping out when their phones don't have coverage everywhere they go.
