This answer doesn't help at all. All you find are a bunch of sponsored sites that could possibly host virusware. Does it hurt at all to provide a comment that ensures confidence to the person asking the question that their question has an answer? You don't think other people months or years from now wont look upon this thread and ask themselves "why couldn't they just give a straight answer? I've tried googling it and found no solid answer. I don't want sponsored sites, I want to see someone who has actually converted a m4a to an mp3. I would love it if they could recommend me some software."

ffmpeg for windows
http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/

not a gui program, but it works and is easy to use.
you just use a simply command like this
Code:
ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -f mp3 -ab 192000 -vn music.mp3

I haven't used this personally but has some good reviews on the internet so your might as well try. http://www.freemake.com/free_audio_converter/

Personally I'm using Xilisoft for converting media files but it is a paid program while the above one is free so I'm guessing you'd go for a free one. smile.gif

Good luck!

I use LameXP for converting audio files to different formats.  It is free software, it supports several popular file formats, and has always done a good job for me.

The first result is: http://download.cnet.com/Free-M4a-to-MP3-Converter/3000-2140_4-187723.html

This is what I use for my day to day m4a to mp3 for the m4a I get off youtube. thumb.gif
