C2D 6300 OC questions...

Thread Starter
Hey all on OCN!

I haven't visited here in ages...

Anyways, I will be purchasing a new rig soon (since this is the CPU section I wont list the details) and I have a few questions;

1: How far can a 6300 OC stock voltage? (Approx.)
2: If I was to use the stock Intel HS, how far could I get before the temps were too excessive?
3: What increments (Vcore) does the 6300 increase?
BTW, I will be using a Gigabyte 965P-S3 , and PQI 667mhz DDR2 (2Gb) RAM

I realise that a lot of CPU's are different, so results will differ...

Thanks everyone.
Laurence

EDIT: How can I change my system specs (Below Sig), I forget. I looked through the CP but I couldn't find anything...

1: How far can a 6300 OC stock voltage? (Approx.)
Depends on the motherboard, and if you got a "good overclocker" of a CPU...!
But I guess, 2.0GHz - 2.4GHz maybe... I dont know, but I got a E6600 that clocked to 2.9GHz without any extra vcore...

2: If I was to use the stock Intel HS, how far could I get before the temps were too excessive?
Not very far... Maybe 2.2GHz at the most.. Hard to say, cause I havn't tried... lol But try experimenting, but dont exceed 60 degrees!!!

3: What increments (Vcore) does the 6300 increase?
I dont know, cause I dont have one, but I think alot of others know!

Thanks a lot SUXBlade!!

So i guess I'll invest in some after market cooling... say, a Big Typhoon!

How hard is it to install a BT? Don't you have to take the mobo out of the case?
I suppose it would be better to install it when putting the pc together.

1: How far can a 6300 OC stock voltage? (Approx.)
~2.8ghz+ on most chips

2: If I was to use the stock Intel HS, how far could I get before the temps were too excessive?

I have the stock cooler, fan @ full speed -- 2.84ghz (406fsb)
idle : 47-48
load : 58-60

3: What increments (Vcore) does the 6300 increase?
not sure... but I believe it's 0.00625V

1.From my experiense most E6300 will do anything from 2,5Ghz to 3Ghz on stock volts ...IF you got the right mobo and ram for it.
The result will differ of course. You got a fair chanse if you are running on a 965 chipset as they can handle high fsb with ease,in most cases.

With stock Intelfan on cpu I do NOT recomend any voltage increasement over 1,3500v.
Because a overclocked E6300 will get hot, loadtemps over 60`c is no good for youre cpu in the long run. Some may disagree, thats ok ,i dont wanna get into that discussion, just try keep it under 60`c on load and you are ok.

Having a few casefans blowing air into the case and also blowing hot air out of youre case is very important.Try also to keep a good clean case so the airflow in the case is good.
