Overclocking problem?

Thread Starter
I recently overclocked my cpu conroe to 3.5ghz and now that I thought it was stable, I'ts starting to go out of control with video and sound. I am not sure if its due to drivers malfunctions but I cant watch a video without lag and play a game like wow or ffxi which is always making my comp reboot. I first thought it could be ati drivers or sound drivers but I did clean and reinstall everything but no success. So I would like your opinion about my problem please.

Reset your CPU to stock and see if you have the same problems.

Also, did you run any stability testing software to make sure that you were in fact stable in the first place?

I did run prime torture for 8hours and no problem. I also got back to stock but the problem still is persistant. I also noticed that some videos works and some games like oblivion works. What could that mean? thoses games were working ok before the overclock.

Let me just see if I can summarize what you're telling me.

You OC'd your Conroe E6600 to 3.5Ghz and ran a Prime for 8 hours to check for stability. It passed so you assumed you were stable. Now, later on, you are getting stability issues such as video sync is off with sound, and when you play graphically intense games your computer auto reboots itself. You have since returned to ALL stock settings, however the problems are persistant. You have also uninstalled all drivers, ran a driver cleaning utility, and reinstalled them, with no change whatsoever.

Is that correct?

Also since I got a new harddrive and copied my old one on it, I keep getting some windows errors and maybe would formating the hd help?

If I were you, i would do a clean install of windows and just start from the beginning. Sounds like its software problems to me. Reformat it and then reinstall windows onto it. Revert your BIOS to the latest stable copy you can get (not a beta or anything).

Then come back and let me know how it went.

if your system is rebooting when your playing a game or w/e your not stable. just up your vcore a bit.

when i first OCed to 3.65ghz i thought i was stable when i ran TAT for 1 hour. temps were fine and all was good. after that, i ran 3dmark06 and during the first test it rebooted. i upped my vcore 2 settings and alls well.

and you should have all the latest drivers and bios.
