But the big picture things like the pricing we never even see the slightest bit nor do we have almost any control.

having good customer service and fair pricing are two unrelated things

Absolutely. But my problem is the other companies like ATT that charge for install, then give customers a better price that we can't compete with but raise it to like $40 more than we would charge after 2 years and basically tell them there's nothing they can do. Companies are making it so they are focusing only on the churn of possible clients rather than retaining the existing ones. Which makes people more pissed in the long run and makes my job harder.

At least I have the position I do within my company. Try calling ATT and having someone walk you through opening ports or setting a modem into bridge mode. Their customer service made me want to tear my hair out. I used to support Verizon's FIOS as well. Who also focused more on just pacifying customers than me ever actually fixing anything. There is something wrong with the mentality as a whole in ISPs. Not any specific one.

Pretty much sums it up. TWC tries to satisfy it's customers as best it can on the service side. I've been to customers who have been on a promotion of some sorts for over 8 years. the secret? they call in 30 days after the promotion has expired and kindly ask to be placed on a promotion. They insist on having the promotion, and are ready to go elsewhere to have service they can afford, but simply because they are nice and pleasant to talk to, they will wind up on a good promo. How does it work? If the rep has to spend an extra 20min not only to keep your business, but keeps them from spending 20mins with someone who wears their ass on their head, they will more than happily find that promo for the customer.

Thank god where I live they are forced to compete with AT&T, which has been heavilly targetting our area for 2 years now. Uverse is yet to reach 55mbps, but when it does, it will make TWC think twice about screwing customers in this area.

I feel bad for all the areas where your only choice is TWC or poopy DSL.

This is what a market with no competition looks like. Why does the US, which prides itself on its capitalist system, have markets with little to no competition? Ask your local representatives.

I pay about £40 for unlimited landline phone within the UK and VDSL of 80meg down and 20meg up. No data caps, no throttling, no strikes.

Scotland, the weather and food may be bad, but the internet, is not.

lobbying. lobbying should be banned entirely. legislators should be required to utilize their staff for research and companies/individuals should only provide input at request. there should be a system in place where parties of interest have a single step in the process to file written input on legislation, and not have lobbyists try and butter up politicians.

^this. Corporations shouldn't be allowed a voice in politics. Zero tolerance. They aren't people, they aren't citizens. If a politician wants to know something about an industry to make an informed decision he should go to industry himself and they should answer his questions in a succinct and prompt manner.

We're all just howling at the moon about this sort of thing though. Nothing will change.
