A 7900GT XFX in a HP.

Thread Starter
I brought a XFX 7900GT two days ago online, didn't ship it to my home yet. and now I am worry about the cooling.
My HP has only one 80mm at the end. and one PSU fan
and a CPU stock fan.

Do you think the 7900GT is going to get very hot?

PS: I am not overclocking it.

I'm more worried about the stock HP power supply being able to handle that 7900GT stably. Video cards have high heat tolerances, unless your house has a very high ambient temperature, I wouldn't really worry about the cooling.

IMO No. The Card has a pretty good stock cooler as it is..Especially as you wont be overclocking i think you will be just fine. However rmemeber to consider that there are aftermarket coolers available for that card such as the Zalman VF-900.

The stock PSU is 300walt, and it rated the+12v as19A. Also, I just have two harddrives and one DVD drive. I think that should not be a problem.

My friend can give a spare PSU if mine is not going to work.

Do you think the 7900GT is going to get very hot?

As long as it is under 90C loaded, you are fine. Worse to worst, add another intake fan. The 300w PSU might be a bit low. The minimum recommended PSU is 350w with at least 12v@18A. You never wantto cut it close with PSUs. A 70% overhead is recommended... here's a PSU calculator: http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp

Well Firstly mate there is your main problem right there. YOUR PSU. That PSU wont handle that card and the rest of your system at the same time..I would consider an Upgrade for definate.

No that card shouldnt get any hotter than most...Depends on the cooler used of course. However you want to keep a GPU under 80c Full load.

My 7900GT had shipped today, and it will arrive to my home proberly on Friday. If my PSU is not enough power,I will buy a 550w PSU from my friend.

Make sure its a good one. You don't want a generic PSU that'll kill your brand new card.

Good brands are PC Power & Cooling, FSP, OCZ, Antec, Seasonic, Enermax, to name a few.
