I want to watercool my gpu.Which of these waterblocks would be the best?

http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/step1_complist#DB_inline?height=260&width=530&inline_id=comp_table

Also as I m new to watercooling, I want to know whether I can add waterblocks to the gpu without watercooling the cpu and other components, in short I only want to watercoop my gpu.My 7970 is in the above posted link.Aee there any better options?

I used an XSPC water block for a customer built. I have no complaints about it.

First off, yes you can cool your gpu without water cooling any other parts

Secondly.. what are your max temps with your current OC?, Is water cooling needed?

If your just looking at water cooling your gpu you may find this interesting...(and a buttload cheaper than other ways)

I looked at the link that you posted. So the 'red mod' is basically using an AIO CPU cooler as the GPU cooler? Is it safer than adding waterblocks from companies like ek? So all I need is any good cpu cooler and go forward and fit it on my gpu?

The dual-x cooler is not cutting it for me.My core reaches 80C and VRM 90 after a short session of gaming. Will any aftermarket air cooler work?

80c with a dual-x isn't that good at all... and 90c on the VRMs is also pretty high...and only after a short session.. that definitely warrants water imo.

But as you are getting such high temps on the VRM I wouldn't really want to go for the 'red mod" as it doesn't provide cooling overly suffice for such situations.

So yeah, its back to your main question of what water block is best... Seeing as I have little experience with current gen water blocks.. I would take Juggalo23451's advice as he is the water cooling editor.

Sorry I could not be of further help
Have a good one.

You are risking your own money/time by not doing a visual match. Check the back of the pcb, does it have a green serial number sticker next to the core?

yeah the 11197-06-40G is the brown PCB reference HD 7970 design. go with HEATKILLER® GPU-X³ 79X0. one of the best full cover waterblocks.

I did a visual match on the ek website and thus got to the conclusion that my card is the amd reference one.

Can you suggest something a tad bit cheaper?

All quality full cover waterblocks are above USD 100. so you don't save much. if you want a cheaper option .

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16945/ex-blc-1211/EK_Radeon_HD_7970_VGA_Liquid_Cooling_Block_-_Acrylic_CSQ_EK-FC7970_CSQ.html?tl=g57c599s1921

ask sonda5 and tsm106 on which is the best full cover water block. they are quite experienced with watercooling.
