I currently have in my possession an Asus A8N-SLI mobo and a Athlon 64 X2 6400 processor.

I'm going to overclock the processor if I need to but would this processor running stock bottleneck an 8800GTS and if so by how much?

I'm debating between an eVGA 8800gts and a eVGA 7950gt.

Do you mean an x2 4400?

Thats because you want a E6400 LOL. But if you have the money go for the GTS.
http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q4.../index.x?pg=11

You can overclock the GTS and start to reach GTX preformance in some games.
http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/1362...oc-thread.html

As you can see the GTS have alot of headroom

Add me to the list of eVGA 8800gts owners (Non SLI)
