lenovo y500/580 wifi signal problem question.

Hi I'm picking up either a Lenovo y580/500 but I'm very hesitant because I hear how bad their wireless Intel centurion card is, Is this true? Because I'm buying it for streaming so I need something that won't drop on me. So if this the case does getting a wireless card fix the issue and if I do, do I have to remove the wireless card inside the laptop?

I own three lenovo Y470p (previous model of the Y580/500) and I have no issues what so ever with high speed wireless connection. I frankly doubt it would give you any issues. I am not sure about removing the wireless card etc... but I would rather give them a call and try ask to replace the wireless card by something else that you would be satisfied/convinced with. I own the y580 and in the 4 months that I have owned it, I have gotten some wireless issues. Only recently though and it's once in awhile. When it first happened, I was getting wireless issues consecutively. Now a days, I rarely get it. It's not a huge issue, but it is annoying. You just need to troubleshoot it to make it work again.

intel wifi cards are usually naff with drivers and poor quality control. I know, used to support a large firm that ran them and they intermittently drop. Its always been luck of the draw. I prefer the Atheros cards but they have been known to fail too redface.gif

The y580 needs to have a whitelist bios update inorder to get other cards to work just remember that...
svl7 at techinferno has done this but you need to make sure what your bios version is and such because its not an update its more of an unlocker...

i switched teh intel 2200 centrino for a 6300 for dualband and so forth ever since that no problems what so ever...
as of right now though im not using the card have to use a verizon usb modem (location has no wireless nor cable nor dsl) only phone data
