Ram Killed System?

Thread Starter
Thought I'd test some RAM I borrowed from work. Corsair Extreme 3-3-3-8 (2 x 1GB). I tried them because my current arrangement, 4 x 512MB can only run under 200Mhz. I'm not explaining all that tho...

So I put in this RAM and the monitor doesn't turn on. And if you know anything about the Asus P4P800-E DELUXE, if you have the speakers on some will repeat the words: "System Failed CPU Test". I put back my 1 stick of 512MB and get the saaaame results.... I cut the power for an hour, reset the CMOS, clear it, reset the CPU, put in a different CPU, put RAM in different slots...

Now I need to research this RAM I put in my system that killed it. I dunno *** just happened. I'm pissed.

Hopefully I can get a free replacement from Asus. It should have a 3 year warranty. But I don't know I'll have to see tomorrow where I'm goin with this.

Thankfully I have a server.

I'm pissed.

While it's possible that a short in the memory (or something along those lines) could have killed the board, another possibility is that you did so when installing said memory.

Were you wearing an anti-static wrist strap? While many people shun them and think them pointless, it's a good idea to use them.
