Help with recording please?

Ok so I have beat my brain to death trying to find a way to record a video which shows off my desktop and a few programs and games i use. what i want to do is record a small tour of my windows 7 desktop and then go straight into XBMC where i have my media library. from there i would like to go back to desktop and launch a few emulators and then finally a pc game. i would like to do all of this in fullscreen and this seems to be the biggest problem. So here is what I have tried so far.... Pretty much friggin everything! mad.gif I started out of course with fraps and it recorded my desktop in not so great quality of course but if i launch a pc game or xbmc it only records a black screen and audio.. i searched all over the web looking for a solution and nothing has fixed it.

so after I gave up on fraps i went looking for alternatives. I have tried camtasia, bandicam, camstudio and dxtory. not one of these programs will record my desktop and games. most of them do exactly as fraps and only record audio and a black screen with a game or program open in fullscreen. camtasia as i understand can only record games in window. which is tragic because it did offer the best image quality out of everything i tried. dxtory can not record windows desktop. camstudio looked absolutely terrible. bandicam seemed like a good one but again only a black screen was recorded and audio when launching a game in fullscreen. I am at my last resort here in seeking your help ocn. if you can tell what is wrong with fraps then that will mostly solve the problem.

And it is not the same problem that can be fixed by uninstalling internet explorer 10 and windows update KB670838 or whatever because i do not have either one of those updates installed on my rig and never did. im sure this has something to do with my hardware configuration. i just cant pin it down so here are my specs and i hope someone can help or offer a way to use camtasia to do it.

I5 3570k
msi mpower mobo
msi gtx680 lightning
8GB corsair vengeance ram 1600
hard drive 7200rpm

do not have an ssd.

I did learn that hardware acceleration is the reason that camtasia can not record fullscreen games but if i turn it off wont my games run like crap?

this is driving me nuts guys please help.

Are you against dropping some cash on hardware?

There's such a thing as an external screen capture device. It essentially plugs in the video feed between your GPU and your monitor, and it simply records (typically in equal resolution to your feed) your screen onto its onboard hard drive. I used to own one of these and it worked incredibly well. Didn't slow down my computer or my FPS whatsoever.

well as it turns out I can record games with fraps just not in the way that i want to. to record desktop you have to have "monitor aero desktop dwm" ticked in the general options. unfortunately this is where the problem is when trying to launch a game or program. not sure why but with that option not checked it records games fine. I guess there is no program capable of doing what i want. oh well maybe i can edit it together to make it look like i am launching from desktop in the video. I find it hard to believe with the advancements in windows and pc,s in the past few years we dont have a recorder that can actually show you launching a game from desktop...
