I am writing this from the laptop because my x79 rig is unstable after swapping out memory:(
I LOVE this website and all of you awesome folks that make it up. I always find my answers here when I cannot seem to find them on my own.
Recently, I swapped out my 16 GB Corsair Vengeance memory (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B dual channel 2x4 GB sticks, two kits for 16 GB) and it worked flawlessly in quad channel at 1600 MHz. Timings 9-9-9-24.
I got a great deal on 32 GB 1866 MHz quad channel kit Corsair Vengeance (CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10 timing 10-11-10-30). I put it in and have not been able to get stable since. My mobo is a Gigabyte G1.assassin2. I know the basics but I am officially out of my league when it comes to understanding how x79 chipset and memory work. I set the XMP profile and set everything up to automatically plug and play but my settings were not accurate. The speed was nowhere near 1866 and the timing was not what Corsair states on their webpage. It was 10-11-12-27. I'm not worried about the timing so much. I just want to verify the speed is accurate.
When you gentlemen install and overclock your memory, what software do you use and how do you go about adjusting voltages? I'm hoping to get specifics for x79 builds. If anyone has screen shots of successful memory overclocks on Gigabyte mobo's I'd love to see them.
In the mean time, I will continue to tweak and see what I find.
