I have a questions about heat related issues [SLI] and a GTX 670 ref. card.

Ok I still have my Asus Sabertooth X58 board with a single GTX 670 at the moment. I'm planning to SLI I have a Galaxy GTX 670 2GB reference card with another GTX 670. I can get the card cheaper as well. I'm pretty sure you guys know where I'm going with this. The Sabertooth X58 PCI-2.0 x16 slots are extremely close together as you can see in the two pictures below.

I installed my old GTX 500 series card just to test the spacing and the card was a but difficult to install. The cards were damn near touching. Obviously this will cause heat issues on the top card if I where to SLI my GTX 670.The bottom card would be fine or better off because the fan can bring in plenty of air from my side fan. The top card is pretty much suffocating due to lack of air plus the heat generated from the bottom card. The top card would eventually get well about 70-80c and I wouldn't be able to game like I want without cool down times. I do not want to hundreds on two water blocks.

Are there any mods I could perform to correct this issue? I've been looking around. So far I've only came up with one idea that could work.

1.) I was thinking about simply purchasing the "ASUS GTX 670 DirectCU Mini 2 GB [GTX670-DCMOC-2GD5] whenever it goes on sale.

Basically I could use the ASUS GTX 670 DirectCU Mini on the bottom and this would allow the GTX 670 ref. card on the top to suck in cool air through the fan since the "ASUS GTX 670 DirectCU Mini" won't cover the fan.

Does anyone have any ideas that could help me in this situation if I do decide to get another ref. card that will cover the fan. I do want to SLI this card and hopefully not have heat issues.

hmm i think i would still go with 2 full size cards, and just sandwich stack them ontop of eachother lol....thats how my 2x 4870x2s were quad fired.... only top one will run a few degrees hotter but not much... tonguesmiley.gif and then buy an extra fan and put it in your computer .

I was thinking about just doing that. Also my case has 8 fans smile.gif. I was going to have two 5400rpm 150CFM fans blowing air directly to my Graphic cards. I have a fan controller so I can control the speed and noise. Technically it would be three fans since there is a fan on the bottom blowing cool air up into the case as well.

And thanks for the quick reply btw.

I was wondering if you were able to get both cards to fit in there? I am thinking about doing the same thing.
