What is YOUR Opinon?

Thread Starter
I'm looking at 2 different models, both are Enterprise grade, 7200prm, SATA III, 64MB cache, 5yr warranty, and 2TB

Model #1: Hitachi Ultrastar 7K4000

or

Model #2: Western Digital RE 2TB WD2000FYYZ

"I'll give you a topic:"

The WD happens to be on sale now and is a few dollars cheaper than the Hitachi, however under normal pricing the Hitachi is cheaper.

Is there a distinct advantage of purchasing one over the other?
Is reliability a major factor?
Is the WD worth a few extra bucks because of performance?
Or is the Hitachi cheaper because it lacks the branding of WD?

Both are enterprise drives, and with a few exceptions reliability in the case of hard drives from major brands is pretty much down to luck.
I would worry about that overmuch.

Personally, I would go with the WD Drive.
Better warranty support(which is really all that makes WD special these days imo), slightly better performance, and its on sale which never hurts.

The Hitachi is cheaper because it lacks WDs branding, has a slight performance loss in comparison, and probably lacks the same warranty support. BUT, Hitachi drives traditionally have good performance overall and fall into a good price point.
