Pros for a second 256GB M4
Cons for a second 256GB M4 IN raid 0
Pros for a single 512GB
- No TRIMM?
- More cables
- Not enough 6GB/s port for all 3 SSDs to run 6GB/s
Cons for a single 512GB
- Less cables
- Could use my current 256GB M4 as my boot drive and put my current boot drive 128GB M4 in a HTPC
What do you think?
If I did go for a single 512GB should I go Crucial m4 or Samsung 840 PRO?
Oh, no, I totally forgot to respond to this thread! I'm so sorry. To answer your question about the bios modding; it's not that ASUS didn't think of implementing the bios changes themselves, but rather, you are manipulating the bios for the Z68 chipset to do TRIM over RAID0. Garikfox has kindly compiled all of these into a single OCN post that I keep bookmarked: http://www.overclock.net/t/1244232/asus-asrock-msi-gigabyte-bioss-with-updated-raid-orom/0_50
. When I was using my Gigabyte Z68 motherboard, I had to do this with my existing Intel 330 240GB RAID array, but now that I've upgraded to an ASUS Z77 board, it's not necessary.
In my opinion, the biggest con you had with your 2x Crucial M4 was no TRIM support, and with the bios modification, it's a moot point. Not to mention Crucial M4's have pretty aggressive ITGC.
Sorry if I was late in my response...I totally overlooked this, until I found this thread on Google by accident!
