Looking to upgrade my router

Thread Starter
I have a 20% discount code from Newegg for a Netgear router. Would like to chose between these three:

NETGEAR R6200

NETGEAR R6250

NETGEAR D6200-100NAS

Will have three wired devices connected to it and will use the wireless for a desktop with a Netgear AC adpt. already connected to it. Also another laptop and smart phones
What do you recommend? Is the D6200 worth the extra expense or is it just overkill. I noticed it has a phone connection, which I won't use.
Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, the 'D' in the model name only means that it has a built in modem. WIth the 'R' models, you will need to connect an external modem to the "ADSL" port.

The R6300 looks to have a USB3 external storage port instead of a USB2.0 external storage port on the R6200. If this is a factor for you then consider it, although having read a few reviews on smallnetbuilder i'm skeptical about these router attached storage ports. I just use one of my ethernet attached computers for data storage / media server etc.

The R6300 looks to be, in theory, capable of a higher throughput across multiple standards (i.e. some 'g', some 'n', some 'ac') but to be brutally honest i don't know how much you'll really notice.

Bottom line, if it was my money, i'd just get the R6200.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I think I'll go with the R6300. I'll get it for $162.00 and there is a $20 rebate. So for $142.00, it's a no brainer.

Thank you

Just wanted to update that I received the Netgear R6300 router today and couldn't be happier.
Not only is the coverage amazing, and the wireless speed tripled, but my wired connections are also much faster.
Easiest router I have ever set up.
Would highly recommend.
