Need help for overclocking

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, I am a new guy into overclocking.

My machine is
opteron 165 CCBBE 0616
Kingston 2048MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz (2 x 1024MB)
Asus A8N32-SLI-DELUXE Socket 939 Motherboard

As I checked from some of the threads, it looks like the mobo can support up to 400 FBS, and the CPU can get up to 3.0 (even higher), I do not know so much about the kingston memory yet...

So I am thinking about get a FBS at 300, so that with a 9 multi I can get up to 2.7G, with divider at 6/5, so the memory will be at 250.

I do not want to increase the voltage, so is this OK for overclocking? if not, what is the proper range of overlocking without increase the voltage?

Thank you!

Make sure to drop your Hyperthreading speed down 4x or else you'll only get like a 100mhz overclock. Without bumping up your CPU voltage you wont get a really good overclock at all, can I ask why you're afraid to fiddle with voltages?

You also definatly wont hit 2.7Ghz on that chip without alot of voltage, decent ram and a good CPU fan.

Thank you Penicilyn, because it is the first time I do that, so I do not know how hot it will be if I increase the voltage.

If I increase the voltage, do you think the ram will be OK at 250?

I'm pretty sure that RAM won't be able to clock to 250mhz =/

thank you boredom, what is the affordable range for that RAM without increasing the voltage, or with increasing the voltage? thanks.

Those Kingston's are probably Infineon based which don't really respond well to voltage, so try between 2.6-2.8 but even then you'll probably only get to around 230mhz =/

I also heard that making the CPU/RAM Ratio not equal to one is not good for AMD boards, any suggestions on this?

Is it good to change the CPU/RAM Ratio, or just change the multi?

Any help will be appreciated!

Using a divider doesn't really affect performance

You can't increase the multi so just change the divider to something more aggressive
