Corsair 350D Mod/ Watercooled

Thread Starter
Hi all, I'm highly considering doing a 350D watercooled build for my next rig. My mod plans currently are to remove all HDD and SSD cages, mount the PSU against the front of the case, and the cable plug end facing toward the optical drive bays. Hopefully, the PSU will be short enough that I could suspend it from the optical bays, and fit a 360 rad running along the bottom of the case (along with a 280 in the top). I also plan to enclose the PSU somehow in a cool way, probably in really dark smoked acrylic. I have a red black and white theme, and cooling GPU, CPU and Mobo (Rampage Gene V). Does anybody spot major flaws in the plan, stuff that might not work? Also, does anyone have any opinions about the airflow in general through the case? The PSU might block the front intake, so I'm thinking (since I want positive pressure) push pull on the bottom could be my main intake, exhaust through back 120, and to 280 in push or pull (not sure yet), and have 2 120mm in front, if they will help. Thanks for all the help in advance!

Hi Oli! If you update your signature we can have an idea of what parts your going to be using.

As for your case iead I like the idea of moving the PSU but really think it might not be too practical. If you have a large GPU then the water cooling tubes will be annoying to fit around it and removing/swapping GPUs would get annoying. I was going to say that a 360 pumping hot air into your grpahics cards was a problem but seeing as they're going to be under water then it should be just fine. I'd definitely suggest full cover blocks though.

Depending on your CPU and GPU, you could do fine with just a 240 up top and a 240 up front both push pull if possible. You could always add a 120 at the back if its struggling but it means alot less headaches and it'll look cleaner.

If you do decide to have a bottom mounted radiator you'll want to work out some bigger feet/wheels so you can really get some air flow underneath as well as some dust filter system otherwise you'll just clog your fins in no time (if you house is anywhere near as dusty as mine!)

Sorry if I've sounded a little negative but I thought I should be straight with you as watercooling is like building a PC within a PC and gets VERY expensive VERY quickly.

Sorry, I'm a noobie to this site, but what's the signature, and also if you don't mind, what are the reps and unique reps?
Back on topic, you made a lot of sense, here is the list of parts I have planned: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Oliver/saved/1tQO . The reason that some of the parts don't make a whole lot of sense (3820 watercooled), is because I plan to build this in the summer/ early fall using the X99 Chipset, 4930K, the best Raedon 8XXX GPU, so these are just rough equivilants. I would like to have enough rad space to cool the CPU, Motherboard, and up to 2 GPU's (becuase I may Crossfire in the future). Do you think I could mod the case just to fit two 280mm's, giving me 560mm of space, or do you think I should have more? Oh, also I want the cooling to be able to bring the 4930K up to a stable 4.5 to 4.6 OC. It looks like from pics of the case, it can fit 280mm rads out of the box, but on the Corsair website, it says 240's only. Do you know? Again Thanks for your help!

If you enter your system specs here (it doesn't have to be exact but the more information people have the better they can help you). Then once you've done that, go to your profile (clcick your usernames in the top right corner, scrolldown to signature, and you can edit it to add your system in. You can also build a second system for your current build and have that in too. See how I have my current build, my HTPC and a photo album. I also have my brother's PC rig in case he ever needs help with an upgrade.
www.overclock.net/rigbuilder

Annnnnd..... you can enter your rig to the monthly contest to see if you win it so you don't have to buy it yourself! haha

The +rep system is for posts that you find helpful and that contribute to the OCN community as a whole. The unique rep is the number of different members who have given rep for example someone could have 25 rep but only 2 people have given them all that rep so his unique rep is 2.

Looking at the spec it says that the 350D can hold a 240mm up front and a 240 or a 280 mm up at the top. Many people will advise you that despite the 280 being larger, 120mm fans can give better static pressure so the effective cooling rate of a 240mm rad might be a better shout. I think there are now fans with good enough static pressure for 280mm radiators but it's easier with 240mm and you wouldn't have to mod. You would be able to put a fairly thick monsta rad in the front and then as thick as you can manage in the top and you should be fine but you'd best ask someone who has high end equipment as I'm not sure how much heat the latest GPU will pump out especially 2 of them!

You might want to head on over to the Corsair Obsidian D Case club, The 350D is quite new but people will have experience and knowledge over there that will definitely be more tailoured.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! Just one more thing i'm a little confused on, so if I'm going with 240 in the front, then I'll try to fit a monsta push pull, but do you think I would still have enough room for the Tube res in between the rad and the GPU? Also, if I can only fit the monsta in push or pull, would it be better to do that, or would it be better to get a thinner rad on push pull. Thanks again!

I think it depends on how quiet you want your case as obviously having 2 radiators in push pull means 4 extra fans when the thicker radiator may do a similar job with half the fans.

Fan choice is very important though as you need higher static pressure fans for thicker rads (and usually run at a higher rpm too). I would say go for the thickest rad you can in push pull and then you can crank the fans down with a fan controller, but you'd be just as well having just push.

Check out this thread and... you can actually search for questions you have using the search bar because it's pretty likely, especially when it comes to watercooling, that someone has asked it before and got more than a few good responses.

I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to place radiators in the 350D. The only concrete idea I have in place is is an RS240 on top, a RX240 wouldn't fit. From what I can tell, it doesn't seem like you can get a 240 rad in the front without removing either the SSD cage (which I actually kind of like) and the HDD cage, which I am also currently utilizing. I could go 280 rad on top, but I don't have the fans for it. Which leaves me with a 120 rad in the back or a 140 rad in the front. I'm cooling a 2600k and a 670, so as much as I wish I could get away with only using a RS240, I think I'd be disappointed in my temps. Let me know what you decide to do, or if anyone here has any ideas...

Edit: Created separate thread. I'll keep you updated if you're interested.
