100% passive gaming rig...

I'm bored and want to give this a go. After reading up on the passive Powercolor 7850 I gave them a call to get the scoop. Turns out a release in Asia is near with a potential state side release sometime this year. Till then I'm gathering parts.

UPDATE: So far I have or ordered these parts.

z77 Fatality Pro-M
i5-3470 downclocked to 3.0 @ .8vcore
SILVERSTONE HE02 CPU Cooler
SilverStone Temjin TJ08-E case
Rosewill SilentNight Series SilentNight-500 psu

My biggest hiccup is the passive 7850 that isn't available yet.

Why do this? To see if I can lol.

Depending on your GPU choice, you might struggle to power your rig with 400W. You may have to consider a case that supports two PSUs, and use two of the Silverstone units.

Don't they make aftermarket passive coolers for video cards? You may not necessarily have to wait for that particular card.

Oh good idea with the passive gpu cooler. I like that better being more custom. Power draw would hit 250 tops. Now, on to the case smile.gif

How come you need it to be passively cooled? There is plenty of fans that are near silent and will keep things allot cooler.

If you needed a passive CPU heatsink though, i'd say try the Scythe Mugen II Rev.B. I have one and it kept my Phenom II x6 1100T at 4Ghz under 35C on full load with 1 fan on low, I would think it could do passive cooling quite well.

I just want to try to build a 100% passive gaming rig. Doesn't seem like anyone's doing it so I want to try.

Would recommend something with PoWIR stage (Z77x-up5 th or z77x up4 th), it runs coolest. DPAK MOSFETS need the most cooling , the LFPAK is better but not to NEXFET or POWIR stage levels of cool.
