[Build Log] HTPC/ Media Server- Case Labs S3

Okay, this is a very bland build to start with. I just do not have the time to make this a great looking build. Hopefully someday I can make it better. Until then, it is what it is. thumb.gif

This is being used to play movies, music and a media server. The only thing I bought new was the case, mobo and the water cooling kit. Everything else is old, used components.

Here are the unpacking pictures of the Mercury S3 case and installing the hardware.

Here is the case sitting next to the Case Labs Mammoth I am forever working on. redface.gif
Maybe someday I will get time to update the Mammoth.

As you can see, Case Labs started adding printed labels to there hardware packages. It does make it easier to read. wink.gif

Here is a side profile of the rubber feet for the bottom of the case. I prefer these rubber feet to reduce vibration and noise for a HTPC.

Here is where it gets ugly. I am installing two SSD's and four hard drives plus the Blu-ray drive. I have been waiting to see how everything will fit to look at adding water cooling. Now I (we) know. tongue.gif

I switched the front solid bay covers after adding the blu-ray drive. Yes, they are unventilated covers like the side/ top covers. I want to reduce noise and make it as silent as possible for a media player.

Here you can see where the hard drives are mounted from the back side. I had to do some work to make this fit without putting pressure on the wiring for the front switches and front USB terminals. This is a issue that I do plan to make Case Labs aware of. I had to actually move the bracket further away from the front switches. The bracket is still touching the leads on the switches, but since I mounted it further away, there is not much pressure on the switches.

You can see in the pictures below where I used 6/32 screws and nuts as a spacer to bolt the bracket in place. I used a cutting wheel to cut off the excess bolt so the outside cover still fits into place.

You can see below how the bracket is pushing against the wiring for the front switches.

You can see below, how close the hard drives are to the blu-ray drive. They do fit though! smile.gif

As you can see below, I need to clean off the desk top, fix my wires, and enjoy for now. thumb.gif

Thank You
Size: 14.94"H x 10.54"W x 15.03"D (380mm x 268mm x 382mm)

It is a large ITX case, but still smaller than my old Antec media PC. biggrin.gif
Hopefully I can get time this weekend to work on it more.

Lol, it is funny.

I decided to replace the factory Intel air cooler because the temps were running in the high 50's and low 60's playing movies! After shopping around I decided on the Corsair H90. Here are some pictures of the installation. It is a tight fit, but it is possible to squeeze it all in there. wink.gif

Now after installation the computer is running in the low 30's and high 20's! I decided to run Intel's burn in test and the temps stayed below 53c! I think this is one of the most complicated cpu mounting brackets on the planet. I found it to be very aggravating to work with, time consuming, and the directions are not very clear. It took me almost 3 hours to get this mounted and the computer put back together. rolleyes.gif
