Recommend me a set of headphones

Thread Starter
with all the headphones and headsets out, i am so confused, so id thought id post here. Here is my situation. Ive got around 100 bucks to spend, and i play ALOT of games, and listen to alittle music also. I have an x-fi xtrememusic soundcard. I was leaning towards the medusa 5.1 headphones, but ive found mixed reviews. someone please lead me in the right direction! thanks.

Also, i prefer closed ear, and if possible, a built in volume adjustment.

Sennheiser will give you about the best sound quality per dollar, but they don't come in 5.1 flavor, I believe.

I have a couple pairs of 5.1 headphones, and I do like the way they sound. For a good pair of 5.1 surround headphones (actually a headset with a mic), get a set of Turtle Beach Ear Force HPA's.

I have a set of LTB 5.1's and I really like them. You might want to look into them.

I'm sure they would sound good, but you're then spending more for seperates than you would for the Turtle Beach set, or many of the others suggested. I prefer a headset to a headphone + mic combo, but that's all personal preference.

That's a fine choice although I don't know much about mics, the ATH-A500 is an amazing headphone for gaming and music. It's pretty huge (think CD sized ear cups) yet they are very light and comfortable for long periods of time. Isolation on these things are great which is ideal for gaming and you get a nice tight bass with some punch to it. You'll get much better sound quality with these than those headsets with a mic attached at the expense of the mic.

I own ATH-A700's (higher end model) and I have been more than pleased with the sound quality of them

The general consensus among the audiophiles that I've read is to steer clear of the 5.1 sets. As far as the audio-technica's, you've got my thumbs up, I've heard good things.
