Thinking in updating my CPU. Need advice.

hi people!

i'm thinking in updating my rig CPU to improve performance and exploit my hd7950 in a better way.

actual CPU: athlon II x4 635 @3.6Ghz OC

mobo: asrock 890gx extreme3 (i don't want to change the mobo)

officially this mobo only supports up to fx6100 cpu: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/890GX%20Extreme3/?cat=CPU

would fx6100 make big improvement and worth it? i can buy it for 99€

i´m searching for people with this mobo using higer CPU (fx-8xxx) but i didn't find anything about this. Only found this http://www.overclock.net/t/1320283/piledriver-on-890fx-gx-mobos-anyone/30#post_19901905 as most approximate.

one more thing is that i don´t understand how the 880g extreme3 (which is identical to my mobo) supports up to FX8120 officially. Don´t know why Asrock doesn´t improve mine's bios.

thanks in advance. thumb.gif

Someone just posted on that forum that the FX 8350 works on your motherboard.
I would first ensure that the BIOS has been updated, then get the best Piledriver CPU you can get. The Bulldozers were not better than the Phenoms.
If that fails, which it wont, there is always the Phenom 1090t or the 965.

thanks for your answer.

my doubt about my mobo is that 880g pro is different from mine (althought seems same layout, bios are different).

i can´t find an explicit post about my 890gx extreme3 running vishera 8xxx with success.

so you recommend me any vishera cpu? or should i go for the 8350 (i can afford it). would it last for long time?

thanks a lot.

According to Asrock you have support for up to a phenom ii x6. LINK

I don't know how to say this but I'm also looking for the same solution and the cpu i'm on is a amd athlon ii x3 435 that has been unlocked for daily use to amd phenom x4 b35 at the same 2.9 ghz speed with all the 4 cores operating normally and my board is also the 890 gx extreme 3 from asrock although my gfx card is a hd 5770 ati radeon. can the op or someone else confirm if anything above bulldozer 4100/6100 work on this particular board, i've been on the lookout for this info from a very long time, also sent a couple of messages to the support with no replies from them. thank you.

imo save money for a i5 2500k if you want something cheap

my amd x6 1055t at 3.5ghz does not have enough to power my 7950 in StarCraft 2, World of tanks, guild wars 2, planetside 2 and skyrim for stable 60 FPS at max settings 1920x1080.
Any games that use only maximum 2 cores will give you problems even with a 1055t.

If you play BF3, Crysis 3, Shogun 2 total war, witcher 2 or civ 5 then it's worth it for a 8350 or 1055t.

If you like to play games that use only 2 cores ur better off trying to find a i5 2500k or 2600k cheap.
My next upgrade is probably i7 4770k as soon as i find a good combo price for about $300 in the near future hopefully. Hoping for a fry's deal.
