Tell me. Do you see more Honda Civics or Chevy Corvettes on the road? Of course youre going to see more Civics. Why? Its not the better car. Its not as fast, its not as stylish and it doesnt have all the bells and whistles that the Corvette has. But do most people want to pay that much more for a better car? No. Most people buy a car just to have a car. As long as its reliable, affordable and gets them where they need to be, they will buy it.

Now apply the same market concept to HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray. Blu Ray is twice the price, has about 30% more storage and has a fancy name. HD-DVD brings the same hi-def video at a lower cost. Are consumers really gonna care how much a disc holds, especially if you can watch the same exact 1080p movie on either format? No theyre not gonna care. Theyre gonna want what provides HD video for the lowest price. And HD-DVD fits that descripion.

Not if all their adult videos are on Blu-Ray discs. Im not saying your wrong but its all speculation right now. I might be wrong to.

Adult film studios dont have the enormous budgets that your typical Hollywood movie studio does. So naturally, theyre going to try and save money wherever possible. And since HD-DVD discs cost the same to produce as regular DVD, as they can be produced on the same equipment, I think they will choose HD-DVD as the more economical solution.

Thread Starter
In case some of you haven't read the entire thread, I mentioned that Vivid mentioned they were releasing on Blu-Ray first in early 2007. http://www.tvpredictions.com/hirsch111006.htm

Personally, I think HD-DVD already has a lot of steam but we'll have to wait and see what else happens.

Both hd-dvd and blu-ray can and have used vc-1 as well, not just mpeg2 and 4.

HD-DVD is currently winning due to cost and earlier release.

Price of HD-DVD players: $500/$1000
Price of Blu-ray players: $800-$1500

we have the samsung Blu ray on sale at bestbuy now.. 700$

and to that other guy with the car comparison.. YOu cant reall compare the cars when there a big couple thousand.. maybe 20000$ difference, i dont know the exact price. When the difference between bluray and Hd is maybe 20 bucks.. no **** someone will buy a honda for less money when its more reliable because there saving 20,000 dollars. but when it comes to 20 dollars im saying, most people, who can afford a blu-ray or HD DVD player can afford the little extra for the movies

It all adds up. Toshiba's HD-A1 is marketing for $400. So thats $300 - $600 more for the Blu-Ray player, and then the additional price for each disc. Like you said, $20 may not seem like much, but once you buy 5 movies, that amounts to $100. 10 movies ends up being a $200 difference. After buying 20 Blu-Ray movies, you could have saved enough going with HD-DVD to buy a high end graphics card. And factor in the price difference on players and you can save a lot going with HD-DVD and having no noticable difference in picture or sound quality.

$20 is a big enough difference. People like to think their getting a deal, and when they see that HD DVD is cheap that is what they think. I know that myself and everyone else I know likes to buy movies from the $10 self at wal-mart just because its $10 cheaper than some new released movie and they think thats a good deal.
